I can't stop thinking about the tragic loss of young Armonie Booker and his birthday turning into such a sorrowful day. From what little I’ve read, his personality shone brightly, and everyone who knew him seems to describe how his laughter and energy could light up a room. It’s truly devastating that someone so young could have their life cut short so senselessly. I attended the vigil near 75th Street, and it was incredibly moving to see the community come together, candles in hand, sharing memories and silently supporting Arrieon Anderson and the rest of Armonie’s family. There was a moment when Keia Gassion, his day care teacher, spoke about his love for finger painting and how he’d always try to bring a smile to others. Her words painted a picture of a joyful little soul who will be dearly missed. I hope the families find strength in the support they’re receiving from all over Indianapolis. Let’s keep the pressure on for justice and, hopefully, some semblance of peace for those left behind.
