I was reading about Jeleal Goins' case, and it really struck me how this isn’t just another headline—it's about a young man whose life was tragically cut short. I can't imagine the pain his family and friends must be going through. The fact that Jeleal was connected with Project H.O.O.D., an organization doing important work in the community, speaks volumes about the kind of person he likely was—one who believed in positive change and making a difference.
It's also incredibly worrying to think about the moment this happened, around 9 PM on a busy street in Little Italy. A lot of us could be in a similar situation—thinking we’re safe in a rideshare, only to have that bubble of safety violently burst. It’s a chilling reminder of how fragile and unpredictable life can be.
Hearing from people like Andrea Davis and Denise Bryant, who were so close to danger themselves, really highlights the ongoing impact of violence on communities. It's terrifying that they had to instinctively seek cover, and it’s a reality that so many neighborhoods face far too frequently.
With no arrests made yet, I hope the police can gather enough evidence soon to bring those responsible to justice. Meanwhile, the support fund set up by Project H.O.O.D. is a beacon of hope, showing how communities can rally together even in the darkest of times. Let’s all keep Jeleal's family in our thoughts and prayers.
