Hey everyone,
I've been following the tragic cases from that August weekend in Chicago and can't seem to stop thinking about Hamza Ali Omar. It just hurts to see another young life taken away so early. As someone who grew up playing basketball all the time, hearing that he had a love for the game really struck a chord with me. It makes me wonder how many other dreams were cut short on those streets.
With Hamza being from Minneapolis, it’s clear he wasn't even local to Chicago, which only adds to the senselessness of it all. It’s devastating that his passion for traveling, something that should open the world to young people, ended in him being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I’m frustrated with the lack of coverage his story and others like it are receiving. It’s like, unless it fits a certain narrative, it's as if their stories don't matter. These were real people with real futures.
Does anyone know if there have been any community responses or initiatives started in the aftermath? It'd be really important to support the families and communities affected, and maybe even drive some change or awareness about how the media handles these cases. My heart goes out to all the families dealing with these unimaginable losses.
Let’s hope we can keep the conversation going for Hamza and all the others.
I know of Hamza, and his story is truly heartbreaking. we actually a petition going around to raise awareness and push for justice in his case.
