Honestly, it’s baffling to me how they allowed this situation to escalate the way it did. I can’t stop thinking about the role of the building staff in all this. It's like they completely disregarded the protocol you're supposed to follow in crisis situations. Instead of calming things down or calling the police to de-escalate the situation, they get a gun owner involved? I just don't get it. This was bound to end in tragedy with that course of action.
Abnerd Joseph deserved so much more. He was looking for help, clearly scared and vulnerable, probably due to the new medication he was on. It's such a sad outcome, especially when you hear about how he spent his life helping students with their own struggles. Why isn't there more focus on the negligence here? My thoughts go out to his family—they really deserve answers and justice. It’s incredibly important that protocols and proper training are put front and center to prevent anything like this from happening again.
It's been nearly a year since Abnerd Joseph's tragic death, and my thoughts keep returning to the role of the building staff that night. It's deeply troubling how their actions—bringing a gun owner into the equation—escalated an already tense situation. What were they thinking? As staff members, they should have prioritized everyone’s safety by waiting for law enforcement. Instead, their decision-making seems reckless, and it sadly cost a life.
Joseph wasn't a threat. He was in distress. It's understandable that someone exhibiting unusual behavior due to medication changes could be frightening, but training for building staff should include de-escalation techniques or at least the common sense to wait for the police. The family's lawsuit against Sudler Property Management seems justified to me. Their grief is unimaginable, and they deserve answers and accountability for this completely avoidable loss. My heart goes out to Joseph’s family, friends, and the students whose lives he touched. I hope the ongoing investigation brings them the justice they deserve.
