I'm really troubled by how unsafe it seems to be for rideshare drivers nowadays. Reading about Adriana Arocha-Duque’s tragic death was a heavy blow, especially knowing she had come here seeking a better life and faced such a horrible fate. It's so sad that this is how her story ended. Chicago's Austin neighborhood has seen a lot of crime, but still, it shocks me that someone could do something so violent to a person just working to make a living. The part I find particularly concerning is the mention of at least seven rideshare drivers facing threats or being robbed in December. It really makes you think about the risks these drivers face every day. I truly hope the authorities can piece everything together soon with whatever evidence, like the surveillance footage mentioned, and bring those responsible to justice. Lyft and other rideshare services need to seriously look at how they can offer better protection for drivers like Adriana. My thoughts are with her family during this unbelievably painful time.
