I can't get over how much Benicio's tragic death has affected the West Ridge community. I didn’t know him personally, but I’ve heard from so many parents and students around Amundsen High just how kind and full of life he was. It breaks my heart to think of the potential and future that was stolen from him and the grief the Gomez family must be experiencing.
The fact that the shooter hasn't been caught is unnerving, and it’s hard not to feel the fear lingering in the community. I’ve seen calls for more security measures like speed bumps and license plate readers, and while these might help, I wonder what else we can do to support our youth and prevent such violence from tearing apart more families. It’s on all of us to look out for each other and try to foster a safer environment where kids can just be kids, without fear. My deepest condolences to the Gomez family and everyone touched by this needless tragedy.
Hey everyone,
I'm really struggling with the news about Benicio Gomez. It's hard to wrap my head around such a young life being cut short in such a senseless way. I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact this must be having on his family, especially his parents, Luis and Guadalupe, and his sister, Elizabeth. I can't imagine the pain they're going through right now.
I grew up not too far from West Ridge, and it’s upsetting to see another family in our community having to piece their lives back together after something like this. I came across the GoFundMe page that’s been set up for his funeral expenses, and it’s heartening to see how people are coming together to support his family in any way they can -- even just sharing the page or sending messages of support.
This should be a wake-up call for all of us to push for more community programs or initiatives to help address the root causes of these tragedies. Maybe even a neighborhood forum where ideas can be shared and new strategies can be developed to make our streets safer for kids like Benicio.
Hoping for peace and justice not just for the Gomez family, but for everyone affected by gun violence.
Stay safe, everyone.
Hey everyone, I've been following the tragic news about Benicio Gomez and feel compelled to discuss something that's been on my mind. It's been very touching to see how the community has rallied around the Gomez family, especially with the GoFundMe surpassing its goal so quickly. It's a testament to how much Benicio was loved and how people want to support his family during this unimaginably difficult time.
However, I'm still grappling with the fact that the person responsible is still out there. It's unsettling not to have any arrests yet. The black SUV description is vague, but I hope that more witnesses come forward or that nearby surveillance footage can shed some light on this case. This intersection is fairly busy, so I'm hoping that someone might have seen something, even if it seems small. Every bit of information could be crucial.
It just feels like this situation raises so many questions about safety and what more can be done to protect young lives in our communities. I can’t imagine what the students and staff at Amundsen High School are going through right now. Everyone deserves to feel safe, especially kids just trying to go about their day. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Benicio. Hoping for justice and peace for his family.
