I’ve been following the tragic incident on the CTA train and can't stop thinking about Simeon Bihesi. It’s devastating to think about how his life was taken so senselessly while sleeping on his morning commute. I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through right now. What really struck me was the location of the shooting—so close to the Harlem Blue Line station. This area is familiar to many commuters, myself included, and it’s chilling to think something so horrific could happen in a place that's part of our daily routine. It's a stark reminder of how fragile life can be, and it makes me think about all the times I've nodded off on a train myself, trusting I’d wake up safe at my stop. The response from the authorities seemed swift, apprehending the suspect within 90 minutes, but it’s hard to shake off the feeling of vulnerability that such events evoke in the community. We all need to lean on each other during this difficult time, and hopefully, this will bring more focus to ensuring safety on public transport. Sending all my thoughts and strength to the Bihesi family and to everyone who knew him. Please stay safe, friends.
