Has anyone else been following the arrest of Darius Mills? It's incredibly disturbing to think about how he was already in custody for another crime when he was charged with Ashley Burton’s murder. What I've been trying to wrap my head around is the connection between them. It has me wondering if this was premeditated or if it was one of those tragic, spur-of-the-moment decisions. Either way, Ashley's kindness and openness make it even more difficult to understand how anyone could have done this to her. I really hope the legal system doesn’t let her down and brings some measure of justice for her family. Her story has definitely highlighted just how urgent the need is for protecting transgender individuals, and I hope we see more awareness and action in the future.
