On May 16, 2023, 47-year-old Tashika Lashon Jones was fatally shot at a gas station on Cypress Street in Ludowici, Georgia. Surveillance video captured the incident, and law enforcement described the shooting as a targeted act of violence tied to a domestic dispute. Jones and the man identified as the gunman, 32-year-old Markel Maurice Williams of Pembroke, had traveled to the gas station together.

After parking, Williams exited the vehicle, shot Jones while she was in the driver’s seat, then turned the weapon on himself. Authorities said the act was not random and there was no broader threat to the public. Jones is remembered as a devoted mother of three daughters, a grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who helped others and served as a mother figure to many.
