Has anyone looked into the currents around that area? I’ve been trying to piece together the conditions Arne faced when he attempted to swim to the next island. The water there is no joke, especially with the temps reportedly around 26 degrees. Typically, hypothermia can set in really quickly in those temperatures. I wonder if the currents might have pulled him in a different direction than expected. Also, just a random thought, but what about any possible predators in the water? Not to be morbid, but it's Alaska, after all. Does anyone have insights or maps on water currents and the time of year? I keep thinking there might be something overlooked in how the search was conducted, especially since the Coast Guard and local teams were coordinating efforts. What a rough situation all around.
Hey everyone,
I’ve been following the Randi Jo incident in Alaska, and I just can’t stop thinking about the local response to the situation. Tim Buness, the fire chief and person in charge of Wrangell’s SAR, really stood out to me. The fact that they got the call around 1:30 or just before 2 on Monday means they jumped into action pretty quickly considering the conditions and the fact that the boat went down after dark Sunday.
It makes me wonder, does anyone know how often these search and rescue operations happen in that area? Given the challenging environments and remote locations in Alaska, how prepared are local teams like Wrangell’s in coordinating with big outfits like the Coast Guard? I’m just curious about how these operations usually unfold and how they manage communication and logistics in such remote areas.
Really hoping for any positive updates on Arne's situation. Thoughts?
Hey everyone, just wanted to pop in here and talk about something that caught my attention with Arne Dahl's disappearance. I lived near Prince of Wales Island for a couple of years and, let me tell you, the currents around Point Baker can be brutal, especially depending on the time of day.
I wonder if the tide played into why Arne tried swimming to a different island instead of waiting it out with the woman on that rock island. I've heard that particular area can be super tricky with sudden tide shifts. Wouldn’t surprise me if trying to navigate those waters could throw off even experienced swimmers.
Do any locals know more about the current patterns or if there’s anything specific about that area that could’ve made it harder for him? Just thinking through what might’ve influenced his decision to leave the safety of the rock. Maybe the incoming tides made the small island seem too unsafe? Curious to hear your thoughts or insights if you're familiar with the area.
