I’ve been reading about the tragic loss of Alasia Franklin and can’t help but feel for her friends who are pushing for changes at KSU. It’s so important that their voices are heard. They’re channeling their grief into advocacy, which is incredibly brave and necessary. I’ve noticed in previous incidents at other universities that when students stand up for increased campus safety and support systems, it sometimes leads to meaningful change. I hope Kennesaw State will take this moment seriously and implement the security measures and domestic violence resources being called for. It can’t erase this tragedy, but it’s a step toward ensuring the safety of other students. What do you all think are the most effective changes schools could make in situations like this?
I’ve been thinking a lot about Alasia Franklin’s involvement in campus life and how much she seemed to mean to everyone around her. It’s incredibly painful that someone with such a bright future and dedication to helping others faced such a tragic end. Her courage in striving for change within her university is something that should be remembered and honored. I've been especially touched reading about her role in founding the Integrated Health Science Club—it’s clear her impact was profound and widespread. It’s astounding that one person's vision for improving campus life has been met with such appreciation from her peers. As someone who's lost a loved one to violence, I know that words can't fill the void left by the loss, but I truly hope KSU and other institutions will heed these calls for better protection and support systems. Alasia’s legacy deserves to drive meaningful change, and her brilliance should continue to inspire others to carry the torch she lit. Sending strength to her family and friends, and I sincerely hope justice is served.
