It's deeply tragic that we continue to lose young lives like Kendarius Carter to senseless violence. What stands out to me is the bright light Kendarius was to those who knew him. A former teacher, Ebony Ellis, described him as "super energetic" and "very smart," which speaks volumes about his potential and the impact he had even at a young age. It must be incredibly difficult for his family, friends, and teachers to process this loss. I can't stop thinking about the heartbreaking image of his community coming together at the vigil in Jonesboro Battle Ground City Park to honor him. It's clear that Kendarius touched many lives with his positivity and kindness. The outpouring of love and support, from the balloon release to the fundraiser for his family, shows how much he was loved and the void his absence leaves behind. In addition to seeking justice, I hope Kendarius's story fuels some much-needed conversation and policy changes around gun violence in Georgia and beyond. A young life like his, poised to make a difference, should not go in vain. My heart goes out to his family and the entire community who knew and cherished him. Let's continue to bring attention to this devastating issue so that we can prevent more tragedies in the future.
