A 35-year-old man, Ifeanyi Maximus of Bladensburg, Maryland, was shot dead just before dawn on September 16, 2024. Officers found Maximus unconscious with a gunshot wound in the 1700 block of Rhode Island Avenue NW at about 4:32 a.m.; DC Fire and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police describe three male suspects, all wearing black clothing and ski masks, who fled in a white vehicle. The motive remains under investigation. No arrests have been announced and no specific suspects have been publicly identified; the Metropolitan Police Department is offering up to a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
