I've been following the case in Orlando and can't stop thinking about the actions of the youngest suspect, Nico Brown, being left at the hospital with Isaiyah Wright's body. It's unsettling to think about how a 15-year-old finds themselves in such a horrific situation. It raises so many questions about how these young kids are getting drawn into gang life and being exposed to such violence at an early age. I can't imagine what Isaiyah's family must be going through, knowing the last moments of his life involved being dropped off by the very people who were part of the chaos that led to his death. It speaks volumes to the broken connections of community and youth. We truly need to start addressing these root issues and creating spaces where our young people can feel safe and valued outside of the influence of gangs. Sending my thoughts to both Isaiyah and Alahliyah Hashim's families during this inconceivable time.
