I can't stop thinking about how close this all happened to home. I live only a few blocks away from the Metro Place Apartments, and I can't help but feel a chill every time I pass by. It's so incredibly tragic that Randy Smith's life was cut short in such a violent way, and my heart goes out to his family and friends dealing with such an unimaginable loss.
I’ve been mulling over another troubling aspect of this case. What drives teenagers like Trayvon Randell Jackson and Rise K Burgess to commit such heinous acts? Were there signs that might have hinted at the escalation to violence, or did it just come out of nowhere? It’s horrifying to think that kids so young are facing these serious charges.
