I've been thinking a lot about the role Lucille Ruibal Rivera played in our community, and one thing that really stands out is how she mentored so many young people. I didn’t personally know her, but from what I've learned, she was a guiding force, especially for those in the Latino community looking to break into healthcare and the arts. It's such a gut punch to lose someone who dedicated so much of their time to shaping future leaders. Her work at the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council and the Tepeyac Community Health Center was not just about providing services but also about building a legacy of empowerment and resilience. My heart goes out to all of her mentees and colleagues who must be feeling this loss so intensely. It’s vital that we remember the positive influence she had and continue the dialogues she started, particularly around issues like domestic violence. Her death reminds us of the urgent need to keep these conversations going and to make sure support is available to everyone who needs it.
