I’ve been diving deep into Douglas’s case, and something that's puzzled me is how quickly someone could disappear after last being heard from via a letter. The Grand Canyon is such a popular tourist spot, with people everywhere, that it feels surreal for someone to vanish without a trace. Has anyone come across cases where someone has gone missing in such a high-traffic area around the same time? I wonder if it might provide any leads or if there's any chance Douglas encountered someone familiar with the terrain who could shed some light on his last known whereabouts. Thoughts?
Just stumbled upon this case and something stands out to me about the timing of the letter Douglas sent. He wrote it on 5/11/2003, but it was only posted the next day from the Grand Canyon. I'm wondering what he was doing during the time between writing and posting. Did he explore a new trail, or possibly meet someone from the area? It’s such a small window of time, but it might give clues about his movements or intentions. Does anyone know if he had mentioned planning anything specific at the Grand Canyon before he vanished, or if he was traveling with anyone?
