Hey everyone, I've been following the tragic loss of Deputy Sheriff Justin Smith, and I can't help but think about the impact such an event has on the people left behind. Attending the funeral and seeing so many community members, along with officials like Governor Sanders and Attorney General Griffin, was a testament to the kind of person Deputy Smith was. His son Ashley’s eulogy really struck a chord with me—particularly the part about his dad hating ties but still having such an incredible turnout to honor him. It's a reminder of how deeply he touched people's lives. I also found the way the community came together to be incredibly moving. The Smith family's church choir singing "Amazing Grace" sounds like it was both fitting and beautiful. In the aftermath of such a tragedy, these demonstrations of solidarity can be so important for those grieving. My heart goes out to Lori and the rest of his family. You can sense how much love and admiration they had for Justin, not just as a dedicated officer, but as a husband, father, and granddad. He’s left quite a legacy in a community that will clearly miss him dearly.
