Chad Christopher Minor, 46, of Lanark, was shot inside a home on Hoist Road in the Stanaford area of Raleigh County, West Virginia, and died of his wounds after being taken to a hospital. Deputies from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office were called shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, and found Minor inside the residence suffering from gunshot injuries.

Initial reports said the homeowner was identified as the shooter and was cooperating with investigators, but no charges were filed immediately. Days later, authorities charged 50-year-old Stephen Andrew Neal of Stanaford with murder, kidnapping, and using a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the May 24 shooting. Neal was held at Southern Regional Jail pending court proceedings while investigators continued to request information from the public. The available reports do not describe a motive or a full sequence of events that led to the shooting.
