I just can't stop thinking about how easily the justice system seemed to let Esperanza down. Reading that Edwards got released on such a low bail back in October 2023 brings up so many emotions. Her bravery in reporting the abuse should have counted for more. Why was her voice not enough to keep a dangerous person like Edwards behind bars? Every system should be protective of those at risk, especially in domestic violence situations. There's a definite need for a review of those bail decisions. Her story is a painful reminder of the change that's desperately needed. My thoughts are with her family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
