Hey everyone, I’ve been following the tragic events in Des Moines and just found myself thinking about the photos released by the families of Oscar Marquez Jr. and Dennis Hawkins Jr. It’s such a somber reminder that these are real people with families and stories, not just names in a news article. Seeing their faces, it's hard not to imagine the irreplaceable loss their loved ones are dealing with. I don’t know about you all, but I often find that these images stay with me longer than the facts of the case. They serve as a stark reminder of the human side of these crimes. As the investigation continues, I really hope justice is served for Oscar and Dennis. Keeping their families in my thoughts as they navigate this painful time. Has anyone else been affected by how these personal glimpses into the victims' lives make the situation feel so much more immediate? Be kind to each other. ?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the tragedy on Court Avenue. My heart goes out to the families of Oscar Matthew Marquez Jr. and Dennis Morris Hawkins Jr. I can't imagine the pain they're going through right now. I was just thinking about how this area has seen its fair share of violence, but it never gets easier to hear about these senseless acts. It's chilling that these were the ninth and 11th homicides in the city for the year. I wonder if this will prompt more conversations around community safety or changes in local policy. Has anyone heard if there are any vigils planned in the area? It might be nice to show support and remember the lives lost.
