I came across Richard Lyman Griffis's case recently and something struck me about the timing of his disappearance being such a huge factor. Months passed before anyone even reported him missing, which left the authorities really scrambling to piece together where he might have gone after he set out. It's interesting and sad to think about how those crucial early days of a search can be so critical.
Imagine if someone had checked in weeks, or even days, after he set off into that vast wilderness. Would we have more concrete clues about his route? The landscapes he ventured into are brutal and expansive, making any search effort massively challenging without current information. The lack of contact between Richard and those back home feels like it really set the stage for this extended mystery.
Does anyone know if similar cases have ever had breakthroughs after such delays in reporting? I wonder if there's any precedent for finding people or significant clues after so much time has passed.
