Fourteen-year-old Jabez Spann vanished from Sarasota, Florida, on September 4, 2017, after attending a candlelight vigil for a neighbor who had been killed days earlier. Investigators believe he witnessed the murder of 31-year-old Travis Combs, who was killed in a botched robbery. Jabez’s disappearance remained unresolved until February 16, 2019, when a worker found his skeletal remains along a fence in a rural area of Manatee County.

Authorities have ruled his death a homicide but have not publicly disclosed the cause of death. Jabez’s family believes he was killed because he saw Combs’ murder. Despite numerous tips, no arrests have been announced and the investigation is ongoing.
