Has anyone else been following the case of Roy Britten's disappearance from Birch Beach back in '86? I recently came across some old newspaper clippings and it stirred my curiosity. It's weird how a man can just vanish and all we have are pieces of his story left behind.
One thing that puzzles me is the boat's fate. If Roy did indeed meet with an accident, why was there no trace of the boat found along Caribou Island or nearby shores? Boats usually wash up eventually, right? It seems strange for everything to just disappear without leaving any clues.
I know it's been decades, but there are still a few locals who remember that day and recall how unexpectedly calm the weather was. This adds another layer of mystery—what went wrong out there? I'm curious if there's anyone from the Shuniah area on here who has any memories or insights from that time. Maybe someone saw or heard something that could shed light on what happened to Roy Britten. It's a long shot, but these community discussions have a way of bringing out details that might be overlooked.

yeah, I checked Canada’s Missing/RCMP and a couple other databases and there don’t appear to be any developments since the case listing , no recovered boat, no found remains and no arrest. Lake Superior around Caribou Island is cold, deep and has strong currents, so a small boat can sink or be carried under without ever washing up, which would explain the complete lack of surface wreckage. If anyone from the Shuniah area still has memory of that day, even small details about boat type or time of day could matter, since this looks like a presumed drowning with no new leads.
