Has anyone else dug into the weather reports for the Lynn Lake area around May 6, 1972? I’m curious if there were any unusual patterns or freeze-thaw cycles that might have contributed to the ice conditions that day. The ice giving way seems like such a freak incident, but maybe there were warning signs? Understanding more about the environmental situation during that period could shed light on how the ice could have unexpectedly broken. It’s haunting to think about how a small environmental shift might have led to such a tragic outcome. If anyone has insights or knows where to find historical weather data, it would be interesting to see if this accident was a complete shock or if there were factors indicating danger.
