Eighteen-year-old Eileen Marie Kelly left her Department of Justice office on December 13, 1974, intending to meet her father about a new car and never returned. Her family waited nine days; on December 22 her partially clothed body was found in a lot in Northeast Washington, D.C. The medical examiner concluded she had been raped and strangled and had been dead for only 24 to 36 hours before discovery, implying she may have been held captive for several days.
Investigators followed leads at the time but the case went cold. Cold case detectives later re-examined evidence with modern DNA techniques and explored a theory that she may have known her attacker and that a consensual encounter might have turned violent, but no definitive answers emerged. No arrests or public suspects have been named and the Metropolitan Police Department still lists the case as unsolved with a reward offered.
If anyone knew Eileen, saw her on or after December 13, 1974, or has information about that lot in Northeast Washington, D.C., please come forward.
