I listened to a local news segment today where a resident mentioned something interesting about the Hanauma Bay Rock Bridge Trail. Apparently, there's a local legend tied to this area that speaks about "Nā Mālamalama," or spirits of the waves, said to watch out for those who frequent the trail. While this might just be a story, it's curious how many incidents have happened in this same spot. Some locals believe these spirits offer protection by warning visitors through signs like changing weather or powerful waves. Perhaps it's just folklore, but it makes me wonder if there were signs that day for Mr. Jo and his son that went unnoticed. We often overlook these warnings, but maybe there's more to learn from the stories and experiences of those familiar with the area. Anyone else heard about or experienced something similar while hiking there?
