Has anyone else been digging into the specifics of Derek Samuel's cell phone ping? I'm curious about the area around Redwine Road where his phone last pinged before going silent. It seems a bit odd that with all the technology available, the only lead was a vague location in a wooded area. I read that they used drones and K-9s initially, but given that Derek's remains were eventually found in the vicinity, I'm wondering if there were limitations with the initial search or if the terrain was particularly difficult. I'm no expert, but maybe the thick canopy in the wooded ravine made it hard for drones to spot anything? Or perhaps something in the environment could have interfered with the K-9 tracking? It'd be interesting to hear from someone with SAR experience about what potential challenges teams might face in that kind of situation. It's haunting to think how close the first searches might have come to finding Derek. This case really makes you appreciate the persistence and dedication of volunteer groups who help in these situations. They made a huge difference here, even when it unfortunately wasn't the outcome anyone wanted.
