I've been following the tragic case of Fermin Reyna, and I can't help but feel deeply saddened for everyone involved. Specifically, I've been thinking a lot about the impact this must have had on his coworkers and the community at that Little Caesars. It's a place people go to daily, to work, to feed their families, and it suddenly became a scene of such unimaginable violence. I can't imagine walking into work one day and witnessing something so horrific. It must be incredibly traumatic for Reyna's coworkers to lose a colleague in such a violent way, and even more so to know it was by the hand of another coworker. The emotional aftermath for these individuals must be immense, and I hope they are receiving the support they need to process and cope with what they experienced. These kinds of incidents remind us all that workplace violence is a very real issue that can happen anywhere, even between people who seem to know each other. My heart goes out to Reyna’s family and friends, but also to the employees and customers who might have been there that day. I hope this tragedy leads to more conversations about safety in workplaces and communities.
