I’ve been thinking a lot about the community impact of these tragic events at the Enchanted Hills Trailhead. It’s devastating to see young lives like Freddie Hudson and Jesus Fierro taken so suddenly. The fact that this is the second fatal shooting in such a short time really shakes the sense of safety many of us felt in that area. What once was a peaceful spot for reflection and enjoying nature is now shadowed by these awful incidents.
I’ve heard that the Tucson Police Department, along with Pima County, is stepping up patrols and security measures, and I really hope it can help prevent further tragedy. But I can’t help but wonder what more we, as a community, can do to support Freddie’s and Jesus’s families and work towards a solution for these senseless acts of violence. The memorials set up for Freddie, Jesus, and Keven Yanez Acuñez serve as solemn reminders of the lives lost and the change that needs to happen. My heart goes out to their families and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
