I was revisiting some old case notes and stumbled upon the murder of John Paul Cook from '96. One detail that never sat right with me is how the suspects got into the house. It’s noted that they entered through the front door—did they force their way in, or was it left unlocked? After such a joyous occasion like a child’s birthday party, it seems odd to me that John wouldn’t have been extra cautious about locking up, especially with his family still around. Or could the suspects have been known to him, which might explain an unlocked door? I hope the investigators keep this angle in mind as they continue their work. My thoughts are with John’s family and friends who’ve been dealing with this reality for far too long.
