Has anyone else been following the Rita and Roland Demers case from 1997? I came across it while researching different incidents of domestic violence, and it really got to me. It’s so important to discuss these cases, even years later, to remember the victims and perhaps learn something that can prevent future tragedies. What I’ve been thinking about is how often people can see signs of tension or distress but may feel unsure about stepping in or offering help. Given that this was one of 19 homicides in Maine that year, it makes me wonder how these things could happen seemingly unnoticed by neighbors or friends. I can't stop thinking about Rita and the fear and sadness she might have felt. I hope we can keep her in our thoughts and consider how to support anyone we know who might be experiencing similar circumstances. Does anyone have insights or stories of how communities can come together to prevent such tragedies?
