Candace's story has been on my mind, especially thinking about her passion for martial arts. Earning a blue belt is no small feat, and it shows her determination and strength. It makes me wonder how many people hold on to hobbies or passions as a form of escape or empowerment, especially when facing tough situations at home. Her involvement in karate might have been a source of peace and confidence for her outside of her challenging personal life. It's truly tragic that despite having this powerful outlet, she still became a victim of domestic violence. It's a reminder that we need to support each other in finding safe spaces and ways to leave harmful situations. My heart goes out to her children and family; I hope they continue to find strength in the beautiful memories they shared with her.
