I've been following the Jerry Perdomo case and something that often strikes me is the role that desperation can play in leading people down such dark paths. Going after a $3,000 debt is risky enough, but when I see how it spiraled into death threats and eventually murder, it's just...baffling. It feels important to remember Jerry not just as a victim caught in these tragic circumstances but also as a dedicated firefighter and father who had people who loved him dearly. His community and family must still be grappling with an awful sense of loss. And Porter...I struggle to understand how someone described as an "upstanding" guy found himself at the point of pulling the trigger. This is just a reminder that the ripple effects of choices, especially those related to drugs and violence, can devastate lives far beyond just the individuals directly involved. Both families have faced unimaginable pain, and that's something none of them will likely ever truly heal from. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on how to better remember and discuss the lives lost in such stories rather than reducing them to just their final moments.
