I've been thinking a lot about the role of the jury in Noah Gaston's trial. The use of the full-size staircase replica really stood out to me. It's such a haunting thought, that a group of strangers had to piece together the final moments of Alicia's life using a reconstruction of that scene. It must have been incredibly difficult for them to visualize and make sense of what happened that tragic morning. I can't imagine the weight on their shoulders knowing that their decision would bring some form of justice for Alicia or possibly change the outcome of Noah's life entirely. The details around the staircase, and whether it supported Noah's story or the prosecutions', seemed so pivotal. The expert testimonies must have been contentious, each painting a slightly different picture of those few terrible seconds. It's so tragic that it came down to such a close examination of their physical space at that moment – something that should have just been another ordinary day for their family. My thoughts go out to Alicia's children and the rest of her family as they continue to cope with their loss. May they find strength and comfort in their memories of her.
