I’ve been following the Shook case for a while, and something that's been on my mind is the role that community awareness (or the lack of it) might have played. Hamilton was such a tight-knit and safe community back then, and the idea of this kind of violence was nearly unthinkable. From what I’ve read, bringing awareness to issues of safety and home security became a major concern after these tragic events. Many residents started taking home safety more seriously, which was a positive step, albeit prompted by horrific circumstances. It's so important for us to remember that these tragedies can happen anywhere and to anyone, no matter how safe we feel. My thoughts continue to be with the Shook family and everyone in Hamilton who felt the shockwaves of these senseless acts of violence. Hoping their efforts in advocating for safety and awareness helped in healing that close community, even a little.
