I've been thinking a lot about the emergency response to the tragedy at Langford Hall. It must have been a terrifying scene to walk into, and my heart goes out to those responders who faced it head-on. Their quick actions probably prevented an already horrific situation from becoming even worse. It really makes you appreciate the bravery and dedication of first responders, who often have to confront unimaginable horrors. I'm also thinking of James and Brian's families, who must still be grappling with what happened. This community clearly lost two bright young men that day, and my thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved them.
Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking about the security measures in place at MSU’s dorms back in 1990. It’s truly disturbing to imagine how Brett Byers could have entered James and Brian's room so easily. Were there no checks or security personnel monitoring the dorms, especially at night? I know campus security has evolved over the years, but it makes me wonder if those dorms were consistently safe for students. It’s devastating that they had to become a cautionary tale for better safety protocols. My heart goes out to their families and friends, who deserved to see their loved ones thrive in what should have been a safe environment.
I've been digging into the Langford Hall tragedy, and I can't stop thinking about the people who shared the hall with James and Brian. Living in a dorm is supposed to be a time when you create lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. Instead, the residents of that hall had their lives upended in the most traumatic way imaginable. I can’t begin to fathom the fear and uncertainty those students felt in the aftermath of the shootings. Did any of you attend MSU around that time or perhaps know someone who did? How did the university support the students afterward? It must have been an incredibly difficult environment to navigate. My thoughts are with everyone whose life was touched by this.
