On the evening of March 11, 2016, deputies from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office forced entry into a locked home east of Bozeman and discovered a scene of multiple fatal shootings. Joe Knarr, 53, and his wife Jennifer were both found deceased from gunshot wounds. An infant son, Daniel, was also found shot and could not be resuscitated despite attempts by a volunteer firefighter and deputies.
Investigators concluded the deaths were a murder‑suicide, believing Jennifer shot Joe and their child before taking her own life. Family members reported Jennifer had been struggling with postpartum depression. No arrests were made and the investigation was closed after determining she acted alone.
Does anyone have memories of Joe or information about the family that could add to the record?
