Joseph Randall Ray, a 33-year-old White/Caucasian man, was killed near a residence on Montana Secondary Highway 200 on July 15, 2021. His death was ruled a homicide, and while early reports suggested a shooting, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office later identified blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Authorities developed a suspect in the investigation and arrested 34-year-old Brandon Lee Craft in connection with Ray’s death. Craft was charged with deliberate homicide and has pleaded not guilty; court proceedings are ongoing and details about what led to the fatal encounter remain limited.
