I can't stop thinking about the impact this case has on perceptions of bullying, especially among adults. It's heartbreaking to see someone like Matt be picked on for something as trivial as their appearance or speech. We often hear about these issues among kids or teenagers, but this case really drives home that bullying doesn't just stop when we grow older. It's genuinely sad that a life was cut short over something that should never have escalated into violence. My heart goes out to Matt's family, who had to endure the loss of someone they loved so dearly. I can't imagine the pain of having to listen to those victim impact statements and relive the agony of the event. The sentence gives some sense of justice, but it doesn't bring Matt back. This also makes me think about Jed Earls and his struggles with alcohol abuse. While it’s no excuse for what happened, I can’t help but wonder if things might have been different with a support system in place before issues spiraled out of control. There's a lot to unpack here about the importance of addressing these social issues before they lead to such tragic outcomes.
