In the early hours of January 15, 2022, 22-year-old James "Matt" Cuellar attended a gathering at a residence on South Owyhee Street in Boise, Idaho. During the event, Cuellar was subjected to repeated antagonism by 34-year-old Jed Earls, who mocked his appearance and speech impediment.
