I've been following Officer Michael Briggs' case and I keep thinking about his partner who was with him that tragic morning. It must have been incredibly traumatic, not only to witness such a tragic event but also to have had to return fire in such a chaotic situation. Being his partner, responding to a distress call together, and then seeing things take such a turn must weigh heavily on this officer's mind. I hope that he has received the support and counseling necessary to cope with this incident, as we often focus on the slain officer and their family but sometimes forget about those who were there and survived. This case has reminded me of the immense risks law enforcement officers take every day, and my thoughts go out to Officer Briggs' partner, as well as the family and friends left behind. I truly hope they’re finding some form of healing over the years since this unimaginable day.
