Hey everyone. I've been following Kevin DeOliveira's case, and I recently started thinking about the affect this must have had on the UVM and Champlain College communities back in 2015. Both Kevin and Richard were part of these tight-knit academic environments, and it must have been such a shock for their fellow students and faculty. I can't imagine how it would feel to learn that someone you might have shared classes with or seen around campus was involved in something so tragic. I hope the support networks at both institutions were there during and after this shocking time—it’s important for communities to rally together in moments of crisis. Even now, reaching out to former students and staff with offers of counseling or remembrance events could make a significant difference. Let us hope that both colleges continue to foster environments where students feel safe and supported in the wake of such utterly devastating events.

I’ve been following Kevin DeOliveira’s case for a while now, and something that just breaks my spirit is thinking about the aspiring life Kevin had ahead of him. I mean, being a former University of Vermont student at just 23 years old, he must've had so many dreams and plans. It's devastating to think about how everything was abruptly taken away in such a senseless manner. I truly hope Kevin’s family finds some solace in the fact that the person responsible, Richard Monroe, was brought to justice and is serving time for his actions. The whole situation sheds light on how drugs can destroy lives beyond just those who are using them. My heart goes out to Kevin’s friends and family as they continue to cope with their loss.

I recently came across an angle about Kevin DeOliveira's case that I hadn't thought about before: his connection to both the University of Vermont and the surrounding community. Kevin was just stepping into adulthood, having been a student there, and to see his promising life cut short is deeply unsettling. Being a college student often means you're living in a close-knit environment where everyone is trying to find themselves and their place in the world. It makes me wonder about the impact on those who were around Kevin in those crucial years—his classmates, friends, and professors. How did they cope with the loss of someone who was not just a peer, but also a part of their daily lives? I can't imagine the pain his family must have felt knowing this young man was just transitioning from educational pursuits at UVM into the wider world. How do you find peace when someone so full of potential is taken away in such a senseless manner? It's a somber reminder of how fragility can mark any moment—and how community support can sometimes be all we can lean on during such trying times.
