Hey everyone, I'm really troubled by the lack of clarity around the events of May 2, 2010, when Christopher Capps was tragically shot. What's really bothering me is the conflicting reports about whether Capps actually had a knife or weapon at the time of the encounter with Deputy Olson. According to the officer, Capps allegedly charged at him with a knife, but it's extremely concerning that no weapon was ever found. Plus, the fact that Olson didn't report seeing a weapon immediately really makes me question how this "threat" was evaluated. Capps' family deserves transparent answers and justice, especially given the historical challenges faced by the Lakota Sioux community when it comes to law enforcement interactions. The autopsy findings indicate Capps was shot in the back, possibly while fleeing, and it begs the question of how the situation escalated to the point of deadly force being used. This incident highlights significant issues around police use of force and the treatment of Native Americans in our justice system, and I really feel for Capps’ family having to navigate this painful and complex fight for truth. Does anyone have more insights or thoughts on how the community might unite for accountability here? It seems crucial that we keep discussing and shedding light on this until meaningful changes are enacted.
