The tragedy that unfolded in Riverton back in 2015 has weighed heavily on my heart, particularly in light of the broader issues it surfaced. It's deeply concerning that Wyoming lacks a hate crimes statute, leaving a critical gap in how justice is served when racial biases play a role in violent acts. Although Clyde claimed his attack wasn't racially driven, the impact on the Native American community was undeniable. Stallone Trosper's senseless death and the attack on James "Sonny" Goggles Jr. emphasize the urgent need for protective measures against such targeted violence. It's crucial that lawmakers take these discussions seriously and consider the legislation necessary to safeguard all communities. To those who knew and loved Stallone and James, your strength and resilience are an inspiration. I'm hopeful that positive change will stem from this darkness, offering a future where hate is met with accountability.
