I've been thinking a lot about the 1999 Xerox shooting recently, especially about Ronald Kawamae. It's unimaginable to think that a regular day at work could end so tragically. I can't help but feel for Ronald's loved ones and what they went through. I read somewhere that he was well-liked and had a warm personality. What's both baffling and terrifying is how someone like Byran Uyesugi could carry so much resentment and paranoia to commit such an act—were there warning signs that everyone missed? Workplace violence is such a complex issue, and hearing about Ronald and the other victims just makes it hit harder for me how crucial it is to address mental health and conflict before it escalates to this level. Holding his family in my thoughts as they continue to grapple with such a senseless loss.
