Has anyone else been looking into the community's response to Detective Childress's tragic passing back in 1912? It's striking to hear about how citizens actively joined the chase to apprehend the suspect. It makes you think about how closely-knit communities were back then, and how people came together in times of crisis. Detective Childress must have been well-respected and valued within the community for them to react so quickly and with such determination. My thoughts go out to his descendants and all those who were affected by the loss. It's such a powerful reminder of the dangers officers face when protecting their communities. Does anyone have more insight on how this case influenced local law enforcement practices or community relations afterward?
