I’ve been reading through some of the historical records surrounding the tragic death of Acting Sheriff Andrew Marvin Mulder, and I'm struck by the sheer bravery he must have had. Going into a situation where someone is barricaded inside a house is risky even with today’s technology and protective gear, let alone in 1917. It makes me think about how law enforcement of that era had to rely so heavily on their instincts and courage without the support we see today. My heart goes out to Mulder’s family and friends, who lost him at such a young age. Does anyone know if there’s a memorial or plaque at China Grove Cemetery in his honor? He certainly deserves to be remembered for his sacrifice.
