I’ve been diving into the tragic case of Sergeant Rex Wright Winchester and something that's been on my mind is the emotional toll on law enforcement officers' families. On July 12, 1983, when Rex went out on what seemed like just another call, nobody could have guessed it would turn so violent. His sudden departure left an irreplaceable void for his loved ones and colleagues. I think about his family and the shock they must've felt receiving the news that day, especially considering how routine the call initially seemed. For those who knew and loved him, his absence must still resonate deeply even all these years later. It’s another reminder that every officer out there has someone waiting at home for them, hoping their next shift will end safely. Such a heavy weight for both the officers and their families to carry. My thoughts go out to them during what must still be painful memories, even decades later.
