There’s a part of this case that’s stuck with me—it’s the 911 call. Can you even imagine the terror Charles Newman must have felt during those final moments? The thought of an 80-year-old man, a WWII veteran no less, having to fight for his life inside his own home is incredibly distressing. The words "Leave me alone" echo so hauntingly. It’s unsettling how a place that should have been his sanctuary became the scene of something so violent and tragic. It’s just so wrong on so many levels. My heart goes out to Mr. Newman’s family and all who knew him. They must still be grappling with such a profound loss, even years later. What’s even more unsettling is that Andrew Lackey was known to the family in some way. How do you even begin to make sense of that?
